Nitronic 60
® Stainless Steel

Atlanta Rod manufactures Nitronic 60® stainless steel hex bolts, nuts, and screws to your custom specifications, and we guarantee to meet your delivery schedule.

Nitronic 60® stainless steel provides a significantly lower cost way to fight wear and galling compared with cobalt-bearing and high nickel alloys. Its uniform corrosion resistance is better than Type 304 in nearly every situation and Nitronic 60’s® chloride pitting resistance is superior to Type 316. The room temperature yield strength is nearly twice that of Types 304 and 316. In addition, Nitronic 60® stainless steel provides excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance and low-temperature impact resistance.

Due to its grain structure, the galling resistance of Nitronic 60® is superior to that of any other stainless steel.  It resists wear, tearing or freeze up of both the primary and contact materials over a wide range of service temperatures.  The elevated temperature wear resistance of Nitronic 60® is excellent despite its relatively low hardness when compared with cobalt and nickel-base wear alloys.  It also performs well in metal-to-metal wear in nominally inert atmospheres.  The cavitation erosion resistance of Nitronic 60® is superior to the austenitic stainless steels as well as high strength duplex (ferritic-austenic) stainless steels.

Nitronic 60® stainless steel is available in bar, master alloy pigs, ingots and forging billets. Other forms available include sheet and strip, castings, extrusions, seamless tubing and plate.

Applications for Nitronic 60® include:

Automotive valves - can withstand gas temperatures of up to 1500°F for a minimum of 50,000 miles.

Fastener galling - capable of frequent assembly and disassembly, allowing more use of the fastener before the threads are torn up, also helps to eliminate corroded or frozen fasteners.

Pins - Used in roller prosthetics & chains to ensure a better fit of parts (closer tolerance, non-lubricated) and longer lasting.

Marine shafts - better corrosion than types 304 and 316, with double the yield strength.

Pin and hanger expansion joints for bridges - better corrosion, galling-resistance, low temperature toughness, & high charpy values at sub-zero temps compared to the A36 and A588 carbon steels commonly used.
