The silicon bronzes are the most popular of the basic bronze families.  Silicon bronze alloys have good strength and toughness.  Coupled with their corrosion resistance and non-magnetic properties, these Silicon Bronze alloys are ideally suited for naval construction, particularly mine sweepers.  Cold formed silicon bronze fasteners should be stress relieved to reduce the risk of stress corrosion failure.

Silicon Bronze Alloy No. 651 (98.5% Cu, 1.5% Si) is best for cold headed parts
Silicon Bronze Alloy No. 655 (97% Cu, 3% Si) for fasteners which must be made hot
Silicon Bronze Alloy 661 (95% Cu, 3% Si, 0.5% Pb) for parts requiring machining
